April 24, 1985 Game 177: Braves (4-9) at Padres (8-5)

The Padres are trying to keep pace with the the 1st place Reds and the Braves are trying to be competitive.  The Braves send Pascual Perez to the mound and Lamarr Hoyt pitches for the Braves.

Dale Murphy was the man today as he would propel the offense.  There were lots of hits in this game, however the offenses could not take advantage.

Murphy strikes right away in the 1st as he lauches a 2 run homer to make it 2-0.  The Padres cut the Braves in half.  Garvey leadsoff with a double and will score on McReynolds 1-out double and at the end of 4 its 2-1 Braves.

The Padres take the lead in the 5th when Royster leadsoff with a single, Flannery hits a 1-out single, Gwynn bounces in to a 4-3 FC and the runners move up to 2nd and 3rd.  Garvey follows with a double, Royster and Flannery score and its now 3-2 Padres.

In the 7th the braves tie it up on a Washington solo homer off of Hoyt.  Murphy would strike again as he hits a 2 run homer in the 8th to give the Braves a 5-3 lead.  Bruce Sutter pitches the 9th for his 2nd save.
