April 25, 1985 Game 178: Red Sox (7-6) at Yankees (8-3)

Ron Guidry takes the mound for the Yankees in search for his 3rd win. The Red Sox send Al Nipper to the mound and he struggled in his last outing.

The Yankees strike first. Nipper walks Wynegar with the bases loaded and Baylor scores, Randolph also induces in a walk with two outs and Pagliarulo scores to make it 2-0. In the 3rd the Yankees get two more. Winfield singles, Griffey singles with 1-out, Pagliarulo walks. Wynegar bounces into a 5-2 FC and the bases are still loaded. Meachem then doubles with 2-outs scoring Griffey and Pagliarulo score to make it 4-0 Yankees.

In the 5th the Red sox cut into the Yankee lead. Barrett singles with 1-out, Sullivan doubles with 2-outs and Barrett scores to make it 4-1. The Red Sox tie it up in the 6th. Evans rips a solo homer to make it 4-2. Rice walks, Easler bounces into 1-6 FC, Armas singles, Buckner singles and easler scores, Guiterrez singles with 2-outs and Armas scores to make it 4-4.

In the 7th Mattingly singles, Baylor walks and Griffey walks and the bases are loaded. Armas commits a 2 base error on a Pagilarulo flyball and that scores MAttingly and Baylor. Wynegar bounces into a 2-3 FC scoring Griffey. Meachem singles and that will score Pagiarulo and it is now 8-4 Yankees.

Neither pitcher was particularly sharp today but the 8 walks by Nipper was his undoing. Guidry was able to get outs in the right spots in order to keep his team in the game.
