April 24, 1985 Game 181: Mets (6-7) at Cardinals (9-4)

The Mets have under performed so far this season and the Cardinals are setting the standard.  The Mets send their ace Dwight Gooden to the hill and he has a 27 scoreless inning streak going.  The Cardinals counter with Joaquin Andujar and he has been brilliant despite a lack of run support.

The Mets score first in the 2nd.  Gooden singles with 2-outs, Backman doubles, Dykstra triples scoring both runners and the Mets lead it 2-0.  The Cardinals get one back in the bottom of the inning.  Pendleton singles and Nieto singles and Pendleton advances to 3rd.  Smith bounces into a 6-4-3 double play and Pendleton scores ending Goodens streak at 28.2 innings.

The Cardinals tie it up in the 4th. Van Slyke singles and steals 2nd, Pendleton hits into a 4-3 FC and Van Slyke advances to 3rd.  Smith hits a SACFLY to left and Van Slyke scores.

The Mets take the lead in the 7th when Strawberry blasts a 3 run homer off of Andujar to make it 5-2.  The would add to their lead in the 9th when Foster tees off a Lahti fastball for a 2 run homer and now its 7-2 Mets.
