The Padres and Dodgers are two of the best pitching teams in the National League and they are looking to stifle each others bats. The Padres send Eric Show to square off against Rick Honeycutt.
In the 1st the Dodgers looked like they would control the game. Landreaux leads off with a single, Sax singles with 1 out and Guerrero doubles to scores Landreaux, but Show is able to induce a weak popup and a ground ball to escape further damage. At the end of 1 its 1-0 Dodgers.
The Padres take the lead in the 4th with a 2-out rally. Kennedy singles, Martinez and Royster walk to load the bases, Ramirez then singles to right scoring Kennedy and Martinez and the Padres have a 2-1 lead. In the 6th the Padres add to their lead. Kennedy doubles, Martinez follows with a double to score Kennedy to make it 3-1.
The Padres open their lead even further when the get 2 more runs. Gwynn singles with 1-out, Garvey smokes one to Bailor and he can't field it cleanly and is charged with an error to make it 1st and 2nd. McReynolds singles scoring Gwynn and Garvey holds at 3rd. Kennedy then hits a SACFLY to deep left that scores Garvey and it is now 5-1.
The Dodgers try and rally in the 8th when Guerrero hits a 2 run blast off of Show to make it 5-3. But the Dodger bullpen is able to close it out without further incident.
