April 30, 1985 Game 236: White Sox (8-8) at Orioles (5-13)

The worst team is baseball is taking on the White Sox at Memorial Stadium.  The Orioles are not doing a lot of things well, but pitching seems to be the biggest weakness.  If they don't fix it soon Joe Altobelli could be looking for new employment.  He sends his Ace Mike Boddicker to the hill to face a good White Sox lineup.  Tony LaRussa sends Floyd Bannister to keep the Orioles on their heels.

Carlton Fisk would be the hero in this this one as he would deliver the knockout blow to the Orioles in the 10th witha 2 run blast off of Sammy Stewart.

In the 3rd the White Sox get 2 off Boddicker, Cruz walks, Guillen singles, Fletcher knocks a 1-out single to score Cruz.  Walker then delivers a 2-out single to score Guillen and the White Sox are up 2-0.  In the 4th they would add to their lead.  Gamble walks, Boston singles and Gamble heads to 3rd.  Cruz bounces into a 3-6 FC and Gamble scores to give the White Sox a 3-0 lead.  The Orioles get on the board in the bottom half of the inning.  Ripken gets on due due an error on Walker, Murray bounces into a 6-4 FC, Roenicke is walked , Lynn is hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Young then rips a 2-out double scoring Murray and Roenicke and it is 3-2 White Sox.

The Orioles tie it up in the 5th. Wiggins draws a 1-out walk, Dauer singles,  Murray doubles with 2-outs scoring Wiggins.  The Orioles take their first lead in the 6th when Young laces a 1-out single Connally doubles putting runners at 2nd and 3rd.  Dempsey singles scoring Young, Dauer delivers a double scoring Connally and the Orioles have a 5-3 lead.

In the 7th the White Sox strike back when Baines launches a 2 run shot his 5th of the season and we are ties at 5.  This game would go into extras and in the 10 Fisk crushes a Stewart fast ball for a 2 run shot (his 6th) and the White Sox have a 7-5 lead.  Spillner works the 10th and picks up his 1st save.

The Final Score 7-5 White Sox
