May 1, 1985 Game 259: Red Sox (12-8) at Mariners (7-14)

The Mariners have lost five in a row and send their Ace Mike Moore to stop the streak.  He will have to try and stop a Red Sox offense that is lead by Jim Rice.  Al Nipper gets the start for the Red Sox.

The Red Sox get on the board in the 1st.  Boggs leads off the game with a double and advances to 3rd when Rice bounces into a 4-3 FC.  Lyons then hits a slow roller to 2nd and Perconte's only play is to first and that allows Boggs to Score and the Red Sox lead it 1-0.

The Red Sox add to their lead in the 4th.  Easler doubles, Gedman singles and Easler holds at 3rd and there are runners on the corners.  Barrett then steps in and hits a deep fly to right, Easler tags up and scores to make it 2-0 Red Sox.  That lead would be short lived and that would be the last lead the Red Sox would have.

In the Bottom of the 4th the Mariners would erupt on Nipper and end his day.  Bradley and Davis single, Thomas singles and that would score Bradley.  A passed ball is charged to Gedman and that scores Davis.  Cowens singles, Presley singles scoring Thomas.  Kearney doubles scoring Cowens, Owen doubles scoring Presley and Kearney and the Mariners now lead 6-2.

The Red Sox make it a 6-3 game in the 5th.  Boggs singles, Evans doubles and Boggs holds at 3rd.  Rice hits a SACFLY to center and Boggs scores making it a 6-3 game.  The Mariners were not done however and are going for the knockout.

In the bottom of the 5th Cowens hits his 2nd home run of the season and it is now 7-3 Mariners.  In the 6th the Mariners load the bases and Bradley delivers a SACFLY to center and Kearney scores to make it 8-3.  In the 8th Davis draws 2-out walk.  Thomas doubles, Cowens singles scoring Davis and Cowens.  Bonnell follows with a triple scoring Cowens and the Mariners have an 11-3 lead.  Moore works the 9th for the win his 4th.
