May 2 , 1985 Game 262: Blue Jays (15-6) at Angels (14-8)

The Blue Jays and the Angels are playing at the Big A today and it will be a fight of 1st place teams.  Doyle Alexander is looking for his 6th win today for the Blue Jays and Jim Slaton get the start for the Angles.

Bobby Cox was able to rest the tired arms in his bullpen as Alexander was able to give up very little to Angel hitters.  He would pitch 8 masterful innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits.  The offense was all over the Angels pitching staff as Gene Mauch was unable to find a pitcher that could stop the offensive juggernaut for any substantial length of time.

In the 2nd Martinez would hit a 2 run homer off of Slaton and Thornton would follow him with a solo shot of his own and the Jays are up 3-0. The Blue Jays add 2 more in the 3rd when Burroughs would hit a triple with 2 men on to make it 5-0. In the 5th Bell puts this one away with a solo homerun to make it 6-0.  In the 6 the Blue Jays just keep piling up the runs. With runners at 2nd and 3rd Mulliniks delivers a single that would score both runners and the Blue Jays are now up 8-0.

In the Bottom of the 6th the Angles are finally able to gate a run off of Alexander.  Hendrick is on 2nd afetr a double and Grich laces a single that will score him to make it a 8-1 Blue Jays lead.  Jesse Barfield wants in on the action so he hits a bomb off of Lugo to make it 9-1 and that is the Blue Jays 4th homer of the game.  This win increases the Blue Jays lead on the Yankees to a 1 1/2 games. This is the Angels 3rd straight loss.

The Final Score 9-1 Blue Jays
