May 3, 1985 Game 272: Astros (7-14) at Phillies (8-12)

The Phillies take on the Astros at the Vet today and they would send Shane Rawley to the hill and the Astros counter with Bob Knepper.  Neither pitcher has been Mr. Consistency and today would be a matter of who would be able to take advantage of mistakes.

The Phillies take the early lead in the 1st when he hits a Knepper fastball for his 3rd homer of the year and gives the Phillies a 1-0.  In the 3rd the Astros tie it up.  Bailey walks and Kneeper singles him to 3rd.  Doran hits a SACFLY to Center and Bailey scores.

In the 4th Garner scores on a Mumphrey triple giving the Astros a 2-1 lead.  In the 5th the Astros add to their lead as Bass and Doran single and Garner doubles to score Bass and it is now 3-1 Astros.  That would be all the scoring in this one as both pitcher turned in solid performances.  Dave Smith would work the 9th to earn his 5 save.

The Final Score 3-1 Astros
