May 3, 1985 Game 273: Royals (8-12) at Yankees (13-6)

The Royals have won 2 in row since Brett's return and the Yankees are one of the best teams in baseball and today the Yankees would flex their muscle.  The Yankees send Joe Cowley to the mound and the Royals send out Mark Gubicza.  The Royals defense would make to many mistakes as they would commit 4 errors.

In the 1st the yankees jump out to a quick lead.  Mattingly hits a solo homer his 4th of the season.  Winfield doubles, Baylor singles and Winfield scores.  Hassey singles and Pagliarulo singles and Baylor scores to make the score 3-0 Yankees.

In the 4th the Royals make it a 3-1 game after Motley hits his 5th homerun of the season.  In the 5 the Randolph and Mattingly would launch back to back homers and give the Yankees a 5-1 lead.  The Royals get a run back on White's 4th homerun of the season and the score is now 5-2.

The Yankees break the game open in the 7th.  Winfield doubles and Baylor singles him home.  Hassey hits into a 5-4 FC. Pagliarulo is safe at 1st on Beckwith's error.  Pasqua is Safe at 2nd on  White's throwing error and that allows Hassey to score.  Meachem walks and now the base are loaded.  Henderson walks and that forces home Pagliarulo and it is now 8-2.

The Yankees weren't done though as they tack on more in the 8th.  Mattingly singles and Winfield is on due to an error on Brett.  Baylor singles and Mattingly scores.  Hassey triples and that would score Winfield and Baylor.  Pagliarulo walks, Pasqua bounces into a 6-4 FC and Hassey scores and the Yankees have a 12-2 lead
