May 4, 1985 Game 286: Royals (8-13) at Yankees (14-6)

Finally a great game!  The Yankees take on the Royals at Yankee Stadium and it would be a pitching clinic as two big lefties take the hill.  Louisiana Lightning starts for the Yankees and Charlie Leibrandt for the Royals.

There was no scoring until the 6th.  Wilson singles and steals 2nd.  Brett singles and Wilson scores on a close play at the plate and the Royals are up 1-0.  The Yankees tie it up in the bottom half of the inning.  Henderson triples and would score on Winfields 2-out single.

This one would go into extra innings and both starters would leave after the 10th.  It was in the 12 that the Royals would get 2 and make it a 3-1 game and an error would be the Yankees undoing.  McRae walks, Balboni doubles, Motley is safe at 1st on Robertson's error and that would allow McRae to score.  White then bounces into a 4-6-3 double play and Balboni scores.  Dan Quisenberry pitches the 12th to pick up his 3rd save.

The Final Score 3-1 Royals
