May 6, 1985 Game 304: Dodgers (14-11) at Cubs (12-10)

I love Wrigley field it always makes me think of old time baseball and the Golden Age of baseball.  Today was going to be a classic game against the Dodgers.  Steve Trout takes the mound for the Cubbies and Jerry Reuss for the Dodgers.

The Cubs get to work in the 1st.  They have runners on 2nd and 3rd when Durham lofts a towering flyball to center and it is deep enough to score Dernier and the Cubs are up 1-0.  They add to their lead in the 2nd when Davis doubles and Speier follows with a double to score Davis.  Dernier then strokes a single to score Speier and the Cubs are now up 3-0.

In the 4th the cubs make it a 5-0 on Dunston 1st homer of the season and it would be a 2 run blast onto Waveland Avenue off of Reuss.  The Dodgers finally get on the board in the 6th.  Marshall doubles home Guerrero who was on 2nd due to a 2BE on Dernier.  Brock then doubles scoring Marshall and it is now a 5-2 Cubs lead.

The Cubs get those 2 runs back in the 7th to give a 5 run cushion.  They have runner on 2nd and 3rd, Matthews singles off Reuss scoring Dunston and Dernier and that would be all for Jerry Reuss.  The Cubs now lead it 7-2.  Guerrero would not let his team go down with out a fight as he hits a 2 run shot (8th) off of Sorenson in the 9th to make it a 7-4 game and that is all the Dodgers could muster.

The Final Score 7-4 Cubs
