May 6, 1985 Game 306: Padres (13-10) at Cardinals (16-7)

The Cardinals are the best team in the National League and the Padres are sitting just a half game behind the Reds in the West.  The Cardinals hand the ball to Joaquin Andujar and the Padres go with Eric Show.  Today's game was a defensive nightmare for the Cardinals.  The usually sure handed team would commit 5 errors.

The Padres have runners on 1st and 2nd in the 1st, McReynolds hits a bullet right back at Andujar that hits off Andujar's glove and he throws it away for a single and a 2BE error.  That allows both runners to score and McReynolds is on 3rd base. Royster follows with a single scoring McReynolds and the Padres are up 3-0.

The Cardinals make it a 3-1 on Clark's 7th homerun of the season.  The Padres crack a few more in the 3rd.  Royster hits a 2-out triple scoring Gwynn.  Kennedy is safe at 1st on Clark's error and Royster scores.  Templeton hits a single and advances to 3rd on Cedeno's throwing error and that scores Martinez from 1st.  It is now 6-1 Padres.

THe Padres bust the game in the 4th and they end Andujar's day.  Flannery would score on Gwynn's single, Garvey singles putting runners at 1st and 2nd.  Royster then hits his 2nd triple of the game score both runners and it is now 9-1 Padres.

The Cardinals start to mount their comeback in the 6th.  Coleman singles and steals 2nd, Herr doubles and Coleman scores.  Clark doubles scoring Herr and Cedeno who was on due to a walk.  McGee triples scoring Clark and the score is now 9-5.  In the 7th Bochy make it 10-5 Padres with his 2nd homerun of the season.  The Cardinals make it a 10-6 game in the 8th when a McGee single scores Herr.
