May 7, 1985 Game 311: Orioles (8-15) at Royals (10-13)

The Royals are starting to get their mojo back and I can only attribute it to one thing: George Brett.  They have been on fire since his return to the lineup and they need him to stay healthy the rest of the season.  The Orioles on the other hand have been God awful.  Their pitching staff has been atrocious and Ripken, Murray and Lynn are not enough to keep the team above water.  Today the Royals hand the ball to Bud Black and Mike Boddicker gets the start for the Orioles.

In the 1st with runners on 1st and 2nd Orta doubles and that would score both runners and the Royals are 2-0.  The Orioles get on the board in the 2nd on Lynn's 7th homerun of the season and it is now a 2-1 game.  The Royals will get the run back in the bottom of the 2nd.  There are runners and 2nd and 3rd Smith sinlges scoring Sundberg to make it 3-1 Royals.

In the 4th the Orioles make it a 3-2 game. Ripken is on 2nd after White's throwing error and Lynn singles to right scoring him.  In the 5th Balboni gives the Royals a comfortable lead with a 3 run blast off of Boddicker and it is now a 6-2 Royals lead.

The Royals get another run in the 6th.  After Biancalana triples, Wilson bounces in to a 5-3 FC allowing Biancalana to score and that make it 7-2.  The orioles try and bounce back in the 7th, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, lacy singles scoring Wiggins and it is now 7-3.  But in the bottom of the 7th Balboni hits his 2nd homer of the game and extends the Royals lead to 8-3

The Final Score 8-3 Royals
