May 7, 1985 Game 314: Reds (14-10) at Phillies (10-13)

The Phillies are taking on the 1st place Reds today at Veterans Stadium and they will send Kevin Gross to the mound.  The Reds are starting to falter a bit and the Padres and the Dodgers are right on their heels.  The will send John Stuper to the hill in hopes of keeping their grasp on 1st place.

In the 1st the Reds get on the board quickly.  Parker hits a single with runners on 1st and 2nd that would score Milner and the Reds lead it 1-0.  They would add another in the 5th, Parker triples and would score on Esasky's single and it is now 2-0 Reds.

The Phillies make it a 2-1 game on Thomas' 1st homerun off the season in the 6th.  In the 8th they would tie up, when with the bases loaded Wilson hits a slow roller to short and Concepcion's only play is at 1st allowing Thomas to score.

This game would go into extra innings and would remain deadlock until the 13th. The Phillies have runners on 2nd and 3rd, Maddox comes up as a pinch hitter and hits a rocket to Pete Rose and it deflects off his glove and Virgil scores to give the Phillies the win.

The Final Score 3-2 Phillies
