May 7, 1985 Game 315: Yankees (14-9) at Twins (10-14)

The Yankees ahve slipped in the standings and George Steinbrenner is already upset with his manager Billy Martin.  The Yankees are 3-3 under Martin as opposed to the 11-5 record that Yogi Berra.  Maybe Mr. Steinbrenner should be yelling at himself.  Today the Yankees send Ed Whitson out to face Ken Schrom.  Both of these pitchers look like they have been serving at batting practice for the other team.  Let see if one of them can get their season on track.

In the 1st the Yankees draw first blood.  They have runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2-outs and Wynegar doubles scoring both runners and the Yankees are up 2-0. That would be all the runs they could conjure up and the Twins start conjure up some runs in the 4th.

The Twins have the bases loaded in the 4th and Gaetti singles scoring Hrbek.  Teufel bounces to 2nd but the Yankees can't turn the doubleplay and that allows Brunansky to score.  The Twins take the lead in the 6th when Gaetti takes a Whitson fastball over the wall in right for a homerun and the Twins are up 3-2.

In the 8th the Twins add to their lead on Gaetti's 2nd homerun of the game, this one was a 2 run shot and the Twins lead it 5-2.  Schrom comes out in the 9th and get the Yankees 1-2-3 and the Twins win.

The Final Score 5-2 Twins
