May 9, 1985 Game 333: Cardinals (18-8) at Dodgers (15-13)

Great day for baseball at Chavez Ravine as the Dodgers take on the Cardinals.  Fernando Valenzuela gets the start for Tommy Lasorda and Whitey Herzog hands the ball to Bob Forsch.  Dodger fans would get a treat today both on the offensive side and witness a great outing by Valenzuela.

The Dodgers draw first blood in the 1st.  They have runners on 1st
and 3rd and Madlock hits into a 5-4-3 double-play allowing Sax to score.  The Dodgers add on to their lead in the 2nd.  Scioscia singles with a runner on 2nd and Marshall scores.  They then load the bases for Valenzuela and he singles scoring Scioscia, Sax then hits a SACFLY to left and Brock scores to make it a 4-0 game.

In the 3rd the Dodgers make it 5-0 when Valenzuela singles for the 2nd time with the bases loaded scoring Guerrero.  In the 5th the Dodgers break the game open when they tack on another 3 runs.  Marshall leads off with a solo homer, then with runners on 2nd and 3rd Landreaux doubles scoring both runners and it is now an 8-0 lead.

Valenzuela has a no hitter going into the 8th.  He strikes out Porter to start the inning, but it all comes to an end when Ozzie Smith singles up the middle to break up the no-no.  It would all fall apart for Fernando in the 9th.  He loads the bases and then Pendleton singles to score Van Slyke and McGee,  DeJesus the singles home Clark and it is now 8-3 and Lasorda yanks Fernando and Brings in Ken Howell to get the final 2 outs.

The Final Score 8-3 Dodgers
