May 9, 1985 Game 335: Cubs (14-11) at Giants (9-17)

Something has gotten into the water supply at just about every stadium the last couple of days as several pitchers have gotten into the 7th with no-hitters.  Would The Cubs and Giants break that trend.  Something tells me no.  The Cubs send Ray Fontenot out to face Atlee Hammaker who has been one of the best pitchers in the National League, it is a shame that the Giants offense hasn't given him the run support he deserves.

Ray Fontenot is this games version of Sandy Koufax as he would go into the 7th with a no-hitter.  After striking out Trillo, Leonard would smoke a ball over Dernier's head and he would end up with a triple breaking up the no-hitter.  Then in the 8th Brown would breakup the shutout as he would hit a Fontenot fastball in the leftfield seats and the Giants have a 1-0 lead.

Hammaker was also pitching a gem as he would only surrender 4 hits.  The closest the Cubs would come to scoring would be in the 7th as they would have runners on 1st and 3rd with 1 out but Hammaker strikes out Cey and gets Davis to flyout to center to end the threat.  Hammaker would go the distance and pick up the shutout.

The Final Score 1-0 Giants
