May 11, 1985 Game 353: Tigers (15-10) at White Sox (12-12)

Its is a packed house today as the hometown White Sox take on the Tigers.  Floyd Bannister gets the ball from Tony LaRussa and Sparky Anderson gives the ball to his ace Jack Morris.

The Sox get on the board in the 2nd on Fisk's solo shot and the White Sox have a 1-0 lead.  THe Tigers answer back in the 3rd.  Lemon leads off with a double and Brookens follows with a double of his own and the Lemon scores.  Gibson then hits a 2-out triple scoring Brookens.  Parrish follows with a single scoring Parrish and the Tigers have a 3-1 lead.

But the White Sox would not go away as they would get those runs back in the bottom half of the inning.  Cruz walks, Baines singles sending Cruz to 3rd,  Walker bounces into a 1-6 FC and Cruz scores.  Fisk singles and then Salazar singles scoring Walker and we are tied at 3.

The Tigers get some separation in the 3rd.  Garbey homers, Herndon and Lemon draw walks.  Brookens drops down a bunt and is thrown out at 1st but both runners move up.  Whitaker hits a grounder to Cruz, who throws it away and both runners score and Whitaker is on 2nd. The score is now 6-3 Tigers.  The Tigers add to their lead in the 5th.  With runners on 1st and 2nd, Lemon singles scoring Evans and the Tigers lead is now 7-3.

THe White Sox will not go away and in the 7th Fisk hits a towering 3 run homer off of Morris to make it a 7-6 ballgame.  The Tigers get an insurance run in the 8th.  Cruz throw another grounder away and Lemon is on 2nd.  Brookens drops down his 2nd sacrifice of the game moving Lemon over to 3rd.  Trammell then pokes a 2-out single scoring Lemon.  Willie Hernandez comes in in the 9th and strikes out the side to secure the victory.
