May 13, 1985 Game 379: Rangers (11-17) at Tigers (17-10)

It was a packed house at Tiger Stadium as the Tigers take on the Rangers.  The Tigers are one of the hottest teams in baseball the last couple of weeks and the Rangers have stumbled out of the gate,  Today the Tigers send Walt Terrell to the hill and the Rangers will hand the ball to Mike Mason.

The Rangers open the scoring in the 1st,  O'Brien is safe at 2nd on Gibson's error and then Tolleson doubles scoring him and it is 1-0 Rangers.  The Rangers add to their lead in the 4th.  Bannister doubles and then with 2-outs Petralli delivers a single that would score Bannister and give the Rangers a 2-0 lead.

But the Tigers come storming back in the bottom of the 4th.  They have the bases loaded and 1-out  when Lemon delivers a single that would score Parrish.  Brookens grounds out to 2nd and Evans scores.  Whitaker walks to load the bases again.  Trammell follows with a walk of his own and that scores Herndon.  Gibson then raps a single that will score Brookens and Whitaker and that gives the Tigers a 5-2 lead.

The Rangers come storming right back in the 5th.  Wright singles with the bases loaded scoring Parrish and Bannister.  Petralli then singles scoring McDowell to tie the game at 5.  The Rangers take the lead in the 6th on a O'Brien solo homer and the Rangers now lead 6-5 and Terrell is done for the day and the Tigers bring in Todd Crane.

In the 7th The Tigers finally get a run off of Noles as he replaced Mason to start the 5th.  The game is now tied at 6.  In the 8th the Tigers take the lead.  Whitaker hits a 2-out double and Trammell follows with a single to score him and gives the Tigers a 7-6 lead.  Crane who took a no-hitter into 9th in his last start gave up 4 hits in 2.2 innings today before he gave way to Willie Hernandez to close it out.  Hernandez has yet to give up a run.  After giving up a lead off single he shuts down the next 3 hitters and the Tigers get the win.

The Final Score 7-6 Tigers
