May 14, 1985 Game 388: Rangers (11-18) at Tigers (18-10)

The Tigers are the hottest team in baseball right now and they are looking to continue that trend today against the Rangers.  The Tigers send the crafty lefthander Frank Tanana to the hill and the Rangers counter with former Tiger Dave Rozema.

In the 1st the Tigers get 2 when Whitaker is safe due to an error on Harrah.  Trammell follows with a single and heads to 3rd as Dunbar lets it go under is glove and is charge with an error and Whitaker scores.  Parrish the singles scoring Trammell and its is 2-0 Tigers.

The Rangers tie it up in the 2nd on Harrah's 2 run homer.  The Tigers take the lead back in the 3rd.  With Gibson on 2nd Parrish singles scoring the speedy outfielder and the Tigers take a 3-2 lead.  The Rangers tie it up in the 4th on Ward's solo homer off of Tanana.

The Tigers regain the lead in the 6th on Evans's 2 run home run and the Tigers take a 5-3 lead.  The Tigers take a 6-3 lead in the 7th.  They have runners at 2nd and 3rd and Gibson bounces on back to the pitcher and he doesn't see Whitaker break for home and he throws to 1st and Whitaker scores.  It is now 6-3 Tigers.

The Rangers get one back in the 8th and send Tanana to the showers.  O'Brien hits a solo homer and it is now a 6-4 lead for the Tigers.  But the Tigers get that run back in the bottom of the inning.  A 3BE by Larry Parrish puts Evans at 3rd.  Herndon then hits a SACFLY to center and now it is 7-4.  Lopez pitches the 9th and earns his 1st save.
