May 14, 1985 Game 392: Twins (13-17) at Yankees (16-12)

The Yankees are quickly falling behind the pack and a win today will help the keep pace in the division.  The Twins are also falling off the pace and the need a win to stay close to 3rd place.  It will be Ron Guidry squaring off against Bert Blyleven.

The Twins erupt in the 1st inning on Guidry and errors were their downfall.  Twins have runners on 1st and 2nd and 2BE by Henderson on Hrbek's fly ball would score Puckett.  Then an error by Wynegar scores Hatcher. Laudner singles scoring Hrbek.  Then Gaetti loft a 3 run homer to give the twins a 6-0 lead at the end of 1.

In the 4th the Twins make it 8-0 When with Salas on 1st; Puckett triples scoring Salas.  Hatcher then grounds out to Randolph and Puckett scores.  The Yankees try and comeback in the bottom of the inning.  Pagliarulo with the bases loaded; hits a SACFLY to right scoring Wynegar.  Henderson then singles scoring Griffey and it is now 8-2.

That would be all Blyleven would need and he sailed to his 3rd win and he also pick up the complete game.  Giving up 8 hits walking 6 and striking out 8.  The Twins were lead by Gary Gaetti as he went 2-4 with a HR and 3 RBI.  The Yankees were lead by Don Mattingly who went 3-4.
