May 15, 1985 Game 398: Mets (19-10) at Astros (12-19)

It's a good thing that there is AC in the Astrodome because it is darn hot in Houston today. Joe Niekro gets the ball for the Astros and he needs to pitch well today.  He season has been a disaster.  Dwight Gooden get the start for the Mets and he has been brilliant.

The Mets get on the board in the 4th when Foster singles with runners on 1st and 2nd and Wilson comes around to score and the Mets have a 1-0 lead.  THe Astros tie it up in the 5th on A davis solo homer.  The Mets take the lead back in the 7th.  JOhnson is on 3rd and Knight hits one deep in the hole at 2nd.  Doran makes the play and throws out Knight but Johnson scores and the Mets have a 2-1 lead.

The Mets add a couple of insurance runs in the 8th.  They have runners on 2nd and 3rd when Hernandez hits a sharp grounder to Doran who misplays it and is charged an error and that allows Back man to score and now there are runners at the corners.  Carter then bounces into a 6-4-3 doubleplay and wilson score to make it 4-1.  The Astrois get a run in the 9th to make it a 4-2 game and the Mets hold on to win.

The Final Score 4-2 Mets
