May 15, 1985 Game 400: Cubs (16-14) at Dodgers (20-13)

It was a wild a crazy game a t Dodger Stadium as the Dodgers took on the Cubs in what turned out to be a hitters paradise.  Orel Hershiser got the start for the Dodgers and Ray Fontenot for the Cubs.

The Cubs start the scoring in the 1st when they have runners on 1st and 3rd, Moreland bounces into a 4-6 FC a Sandberg scores to make it 1-0.  In the 3rd with runners on 1 and 2nd Moreland singles scoring Dernier and then Davis hits a SACFLY to left and Sandberg scores and the Cubs are up 3-0.  The Dodgers get 1 of those runs back in the bottom of the inning when a Scioscia single scores Hershiser to make it 3-1.

The Cubs make it 6-1 in the 4th when Sandberg launches a 2-out 3 run homer.  But the Dodgers get those runs back when Madlock hits a 3 run homer of his own and it is now a 6-4 Cubs lead.  The Cubs make it 7-4 in the 7th when a Davis single scores Dernier.

The Cubs bust this one wide open as then score 8 runs on the 8th off of Diaz to make it a 15-4 game.  The key hits were both Davis and Dunston hit 3 run homers.  The Dodgers fight back though.  As they put up 4 runs in the bottom of the 8th but that would not be enough as it is now 15-8.  The Cubs add another run in the 9th to make it 16-8 and this one is over.  The Cubs pounded out 21 hits on the day and the Dodgers 3 errors helped paved the way for this crazy game.

The Final Score 16-8 Cubs
