June 7, 1985: Pirates (20-30) at Cubs (31-19)

At WRIGLEY FIELD, the Chicago faithful were treated to an intriguing pitcher's duel. Scott Sanderson(6-3) finally bested his Pittsburgh counterpart, Rick Rhoden(3-7), by the score of 3 to 1. 

Chicago came up with the deciding runs in the 8th inning plating 2 runs on 3 hits. After an out was recorded, Davey Lopes was the sparkplug when he lined a base-hit. One out later, Ron Cey came to bat and ripped a base-knock. Cey took second on the throw. Leon Durham then doubled. Chicago managed 8 hits in their victory. 

Lee Smith earned the save, his 14th. The losing pitcher was Rhoden. He surrendered 3 runs and 8 hits in 7 and 2/3 innings. 

The Chicago ballclub's record now stands at 31-19. With the loss, the Pittsburgh ballclub's record is 20-30.
