35,232 fans watched an exciting game at WRIGLEY FIELD. The Pittsburgh Pirates tallied 4 runs in the 6th inning and topped the Chicago Cubs by the slimmest of margins, 5 to 4. 

Pittsburgh scored 4 runs in the decisive 6th inning with the help of 4 hits. The highlight belonged to Tony Pena who quieted the home crowd when he launched a three-run homer. Rick Reuschel(7-2) got relief help from Cecilio Guante who was excellent in relief and gained credit for his 6th save. 

Dennis Eckersley(7-3) was hit with the loss. He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an earned run in his 5 and 2/3 innings of work.
