June 28, 1985: Mets (46-25) at Cardinals (41-30)

Dwight Gooden went 9 solid innings as the New York Mets outscored the St. Louis Cardinals 1 to 0. 

New York won the game with a run in the top of the 9th inning. After an out was recorded, Darryl Strawberry drew a walk. George Foster was next and he lined a single. After another out, Rafael Santana then singled scoring the run. St. Louis proved to be no trouble in the bottom of the 9th. 

It was the 6th shutout of the year for Gooden(11-1). John Tudor(8-4) was given the loss. "Both pitchers were great tonight" Whitey Herzog said. "Gooden was just a little bit better."
