Jack Morris mowed down 11 Toronto batters and first baseman Barbaro Garbey went deep and had 2 RBI at TIGER STADIUM where the Detroit Tigers beat the Toronto Blue Jays in 16 innings by the score of 4 to 2. 

Both teams were tied at 2 runs apiece after nine innings. Detroit was victorious in the 16th inning. Chet Lemon led off and got things going when he laced a base-knock. After an out was recorded, Lou Whitaker came to bat and clubbed a two-run home run making Detroit the winners and sending the 48,677 fans home happy. Detroit had 8 hits for the game and Toronto had 5. 

Willie Hernandez(1-2) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Dennis Lamp(2-5) was the loser in relief. He gave up 2 runs and 2 hits in 1 and 1/3 innings.
