July 19, 1985: Yankees (50-38) at Twins (36-53)

Phil Niekro threw a complete game shutout as the New York Yankees defeated the reeling Minnesota Twins 5 to 0 at METRODOME.

Rickey Henderson had a good evening at the plate. He laced a base-hit in the 1st inning, emptied the bases with a Grand Slam homerun in the 2nd inning and lined a single in the 4th inning. After the 4th inning, neither team was able to score.

It was the 2nd shutout of the year for Niekro(8-6). Frank Viola(7-13) took the loss. He gave up 5 runs and 7 hits in 7 innings.

New York continued their winnings ways improving their record to 50-38. They are 8-2 in their last ten games. Ray Miller was pretty down after the loss. 'We've really been sputtering along lately, something like 1-9 in the last week or two. That won't get it done.'
