July 23, 1985: Yankees (52-40) at Royals (53-41)

Third baseman George Brett had 2 base hits and Bud Black allowed Dick Howser to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as the Kansas City Royals defeated the New York Yankees by a score of 7 to 1 at ROYALS STADIUM. 

In the bottom of the 3rd inning Kansas City went on top for good when they came up with 2 runs on 2 hits. That was all Black(12-5) needed. Kansas City banged out 8 hits on the night. 

Phil Niekro(8-7) was charged with the loss. He gave up 7 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings of work.
