July 24, 1985: A's (36-59) at Red Sox (59-36)

Dwayne Murphy smacked 3 homeruns as the Oakland Athletics defeated the Boston Red Sox by a score of 7 to 5 at FENWAY PARK.

Murphy had a big day with his bat. He depressed the partisan hometown fans with a grand slam home run in the 1st inning, delivered a solo blast in the 6th inning and lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 8th inning. Oakland finished with 12 hits while Boston ended up with 9.

The win went to Tommy John(1-3) who allowed 1 run in 6 innings. John got help from Jay Howell who was credited with his 16th save. Al Nipper(5-8) was charged with the loss.

Jackie Moore was just happy to get a win, 'We've had such a bad streak of games -- boy, it's great to get the monkey off our back. Now maybe we can relax a little and play the kind of baseball of which we are capable.'
