30,886 fans were treated to a fine game at Shibe Park as only one run separated the combatants at game's end. The Atlanta Braves won by the slimmest of margins, 4 to 3. 

Atlanta won the game with a run in the top of the 9th inning. After an out was recorded, Rick Cerone smacked a single. Claudell Washington was next and he doubled. One out later, Dale Murphy then lined a base-hit scoring the run. Bruce Sutter earned the save with a perfect ninth, his 9th save. 

Zane Smith(5-8) was the winner allowing 3 runs in 8 innings. Dave Rucker(1-3) was given the loss in relief. He gave up 3 hits and no walks in 1 inning.
