The St. Louis Cardinals bested the San Diego Padres in 11 innings by a 6 to 3 score at JACK MURPHY STADIUM. 

The game was deadlocked at 3 after nine full innings. Finally, St. Louis pulled the game out in the 11th inning. Tommy Herr led off and started the rally when he delivered a one-base hit. Jack Clark came to the plate and doubled. Tito Landrum then clubbed a three-run home run. St. Louis had 10 hits overall, while San Diego had 7. 

Ricky Horton(5-2) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory. Goose Gossage(4-4) was given the loss in relief. He gave up 4 runs in 3 innings and saw his ERA jump from 2.81 to 3.26.
