August 4, 1985: Mets (69-35) at Cubs (56-48)

Right fielder Darryl Strawberry cracked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Ed Lynch pitched 9 strong innings at WRIGLEY FIELD as the very potent New York Mets beat the Chicago Cubs by the count of 6 to 1. 

Strawberry provided much of the offense. He ripped a solo home run in the 4th inning and lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 6th inning. New York totaled 11 hits on the afternoon. 

The win went to Lynch(16-3) who allowed 1 run in the game. Ray Fontenot(5-10) was given the loss. He served up 4 homeruns in his 7 and 2/3 innings. 

With the win New York now has a record of a division leading 69-35. With this loss, Chicago has a 4-6 record of late, 56-48 overall.
