August 4, 1985: Red Sox (66-39) at Royals (58-46)

The Boston Red Sox put 5 runs on the scoreboard in the 2nd inning and defeated the Kansas City Royals by a score of 9 to 5 at ROYALS STADIUM. 

Rich Gedman led the offense for Boston. He lofted a three-run homer in the 2nd inning, smacked a single in the 4th inning and stroked a one-base hit knocking in a run in the 8th inning. Boston finished with 10 hits while Kansas City ended up with 7. 

Al Nipper(6-9) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 innings and allowing 5 runs. Steve Crawford earned the save, his 4th. Bud Black(13-6) absorbed the loss. He was not very effective, surrendering 7 runs in 3 innings.
