August 4, 1985: White Sox (52-50) at Yankees (60-44)

Phil Niekro carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the New York Yankees defeated the Chicago White Sox by the score of 5 to 4 at YANKEE STADIUM. 

Niekro(10-7) pitched well for New York in their victory. He was reached for 4 hits and 4 walks in 7 innings. The right-handed Niekro had his no-hit bid broken up by Rudy Law who singled with nobody out in the 6th inning. Chicago threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short. 

Brian Fisher got the save, his 2nd. The loss was charged to Floyd Bannister(11-9). He was hit hard and gave up 10 hits and 3 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings. 

'We lose our concentration for one pitch, and we lose the game.' Tony LaRussa said after the game. 'Maybe now these guys will listen when I say they have to concentrate on EVERY pitch.'
