August 6, 1985: Indians (38-71) at Yankees (62-44)

Joe Cowley(8-8) and Don Schulze(5-14) dueled it out with Cowley and the New York Yankees coming out on top of the reeling Cleveland Indians by the score of 2 to 1.

New York took the lead off Schulze in the first inning plating 2 runs using 3 hits. Rickey Henderson led off and started the attack as he smacked a single. Henderson took his lead and swiped second. New York continued their aggressive style with another stolen base. Ken Griffey got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. One out later, Dave Winfield came to the plate and doubled. Ron Hassey did his part to keep things going and lined a one-base hit scoring the final run of the inning. That early scoring was all that Cowley needed. Cleveland tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.

Dave Righetti recorded his 25th save. 'He gutted it out' Billy Martin said of Cowley. 'I was very impressed by his tenacity.'
