August 6, 1985: Pirates (42-63) at Phillies (44-61)

Center fielder Von Hayes knocked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Steve Carlton went the distance as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the slumping Pittsburgh Pirates 8 to 2 at Shibe Park. 

Hayes helped send the fans home happy. He bombed a two-run dinger in the 1st inning, delivered a solo blast in the 4th inning and ripped a base-hit in the 8th inning. Philadelphia had 9 hits for the night.  
The win was credited to Carlton(13-4) who went the whole way allowing 2 runs. Rick Reuschel(13-6) ended up with the loss. He pitched 6 innings and surrendered 6 hits and 2 walks. The Philadelphia ballclub's record now stands at 44-61. With the loss, the Pittsburgh ballclub's record is 42-63, worst in the division..
