August 8, 1985: Braves (33-74) at Giants (47-61)

Dale Murphy cracked a homer and had 3 RBI at CANDLESTICK PARK as the Atlanta Braves beat the San Francisco Giants 9 to 5.

Murphy was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided much of the offense for the visitors. He lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 5th inning and doubled bringing in two baserunners in the 6th inning. Atlanta had a total of 11 hits for the game.

The win went to Rick Mahler(9-10) who allowed 5 runs in 8 innings. Vida Blue(5-15) took the loss. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 4 and 1/3 innings of work.

With this win, Atlanta has a 33-74 record. They have been 5-5 lately. With the loss, the San Francisco ballclub's record is 47-61.
