Right fielder Dave Winfield had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the New York Yankees outscored the Cleveland Indians in 10 innings 9 to 8. 

The game was deadlocked at 8 after nine full innings. New York came out the victor in the 10th inning. Winfield reached on an error. Henry Cotto was next and he lined a single. Cotto took second on the throw. Andre Robertson then hit a deep fly giving New York the victory and sending the 45,786 home-town fans home happy. New York rapped out 16 hits for the night. 

Rich Bordi(8-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1/3 of an inning. Jerry Reed(2-3) suffered the loss in relief. The New York ballclub's record now stands at 63-45. Cleveland continued their losing ways and their record is now 39-72, worst in the division. They are 2-8 in their last ten games.
