August 9, 1985: Astros (52-57) at Padres (60-51)

The Houston Astros edged the San Diego Padres at JACK MURPHY STADIUM by the score of 7 to 6.

San Diego was unable to climb back into it after Houston went ahead for good in the top of the 4th inning plating 2 runs on 2 hits. Terry Puhl led off and got things going when he drew a walk. Bob Knepper struck out, unable to help the rally. Bill Doran then lined a one-base hit. Jim Pankovits stepped in and he drew a walk to load the bases. Glenn Davis came up to bat and hit a deep fly knocking in a run. Jose Cruz contributed to the rally and stroked a base-hit scoring the final run of the inning. Both teams' bats went to sleep after the 4th inning with no runs scored after that point.

Knepper(14-10) went 5 innings allowing 6 runs for the victory. Bill Dawley recorded his 1st save. The losing pitcher was Eric Show(13-10). Houston knocked him around a bit, as he gave up 7 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings.

'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' Knepper said.
