August 9, 1985: Cubs (57-52) at Mets (74-35)

Sid Fernandez blanked Chicago allowing just 2 hits and Mookie Wilson had 2 base hits as the New York Mets bested the Chicago Cubs 6 to 0 at SHEA STADIUM.

Fernandez(17-5) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the Chicago batters. He gave up just 2 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings. Fernandez whiffed an impressive total of 14 Chicago batters. New York finished with 10 hits in the victory.

The losing pitcher was Ray Fontenot(5-11). 'Fernandez was the man tonight,' Davey Johnson said. 'He had just about every pitch working.'
