August 13, 1985: Phillies (49-64) at Mets (77-36)

Juan Samuel had 4 hits and 2 RBI and Kevin Gross went the distance as the Philadelphia Phillies topped the New York Mets by a score of 7 to 1 at SHEA STADIUM.

The game started off with Philadelphia taking the lead in the first plating 2 runs using 2 hits. Samuel opened up the inning nicely when he tripled. Derrel Thomas stepped up next and he drew a walk. Von Hayes then drew a walk to load the bases. Mike Schmidt followed and he drew a walk knocking in a run. One out later, Ozzie Virgil was a strikeout victim, unable to help out. Rick Schu added his contribution to the rally and lined a one-base hit scoring the final run of the inning. That was all the offense they were to need. Philadelphia rapped out 12 hits for the night.

Gross(4-11) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 1 run. Sid Fernandez(17-6) was the loser. He pitched 5 innings allowing 7 hits and 5 walks.

With the win Philadelphia now has a record of 49-64. Even with the loss, New York still has a nice 9-1 record in recent weeks. They are 77-36 on the season.
