August 14, 1985: Yankees (67-47) at White Sox (56-56)

One run was the difference at COMISKEY PARK as the New York Yankees defeated the Chicago White Sox 4 to 3.

New York came up with all the runs they needed in the 8th inning when they came up with 4 runs on 3 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Don Mattingly who silenced the stadium when he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run. Chicago threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.

Dennis Rasmussen(7-4) got the win allowing 2 runs in 8 innings. Dave Righetti gained credit for his 27th save. Dan Spillner(5-3) was tagged with the loss in relief. He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an earned run in his 1 and 2/3 innings of work.
