August 24, 1985: Tigers (72-51) at Angels (54-69)

Right fielder Kirk Gibson blasted 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Frank Tanana recorded a complete game shutout as the Detroit Tigers man-handled the California Angels - the final score was 11 to 0.

Gibson had a big evening at the plate. He lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 1st inning, smashed a bases-empty homer in the 3rd inning and doubled resulting in a run in the 4th inning. Detroit had 12 hits for the night.

It was the 2nd shutout of the year for Tanana(13-7). Mike Witt(8-13) was the loser. He allowed 4 homeruns in 6 and 2/3 innings of work.

With this win, Detroit has a 72-51 record. They have been 6-4 lately. California can't seem to snap out of their recent 'funk'. Now they have a miserable 2-8 record over the last couple weeks.
