Lou Whitaker hit 2 doubles and scored 3 times as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Oakland Athletics by a score of 9 to 4 at TIGER STADIUM. 

Detroit jumped out to the early lead in the first inning when they came up with 3 runs on 1 hit. The big moment was provided by Larry Herndon who made the crowd come alive when he delivered a single which was good for two runs. Detroit had 10 hits for the night while Oakland had 7.
