August 29, 1985: Mets (83-44) at Giants (56-70)

Chris Brown slammed a homerun as the San Francisco Giants won in dramatic fashion over the New York Mets by a score of 4 to 3 at CANDLESTICK PARK.

San Francisco came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning plating 3 runs on 3 hits. Brown started the attack as he lofted a solo-blast 'downtown'. Bob Brenly stepped up next and he stroked a base-hit. Jeff Leonard struck out, unable to help the rally. Dan Driessen came up and he drew a walk. David Green came up to bat and was hit by a pitch. Jose Uribe kept the inning going and reached on an error bringing in another run. Rob Deer got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Dan Gladden then banged out a single giving San Francisco the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy. New York out-hit San Francisco 10 to 6, but San Francisco ended up with more runs.

Scott Garrelts(8-4) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. The loss was charged to Dwight Gooden(17-5). Garrelts and Brown were really whooping it up in the clubhouse after the great come from behind victory. As Jim Davenport noted, 'A win like this one can do wonders for a team's attitude.' Everyone shares in the joy - the fans, the players - even you guys - it's better than winning by a dozen runs!'
