Garry Templeton had 2 base hits as the San Diego Padres outscored the Philadelphia Phillies 3 to 2. 

San Diego went ahead for good in the 5th inning plating an isolated run on 2 hits. Philadelphia threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short. 

Dave Dravecky(13-11) allowed 2 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the victory. Goose Gossage earned his 29th save. Kevin Gross(4-14) was tagged with the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 8 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings. 

With the win San Diego now has a record of 72-63. Philadelphia has a record of 57-77, worst in the division after the loss.
