16,637 fans were treated to a fine game at Forbes Field as only one run separated the combatants at game's end. 

The Chicago Cubs won by the slimmest of margins, 4 to 3. Chicago scored the deciding run in the top of the 9th inning. Shawon Dunston smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly'. Chicago totaled 10 hits on the night. 

Ray Fontenot(8-14) got the win allowing 3 runs in 8 innings. Lee Smith gained credit for his 35th save. Rod Scurry(0-3) suffered the loss in relief.
