15,777 fans were treated to a fine game at CANDLESTICK PARK as only one run separated the combatants at game's end. The Los Angeles Dodgers won 5 to 4. 

Los Angeles came up with the deciding runs in the 8th inning scoring 2 runs on 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Steve Sax started the rally when he slapped a base-hit. After another out, Pedro Guerrero came to bat and popped a two-run clout over the fence. Bobby Castillo(7-3) got help from Tom Niedenfuer who pitched great and earned his 24th save. 

Scott Garrelts(8-6) was given the loss in relief. He pitched 2 innings and surrendered 2 hits and 1 walk.
