Cincinnati erupted with the game winning runs in the top of the 9th inning plating 2 runs. Dann Bilardello led off and started the rally when he reached on an error. Wayne Krenchicki came next and he drew a walk. Bo Diaz then drew a walk to load the bases. Eric Davis struck out, unable to help the rally. Oester stepped into the box and doubled which was good for two runs. Cincinnati out-hit Houston for the game, 14 hits to 8.
The victory went to Tom Hume(3-2) who went 1 inning, allowing 1 run. John Franco preserved the game for Hume, recording his his 28th save. Frank Dipino(4-2) was hit with the loss in relief.
